RESENAT: Remediation of residual contamination by using nature-based techniques

RESANAT is a collaboration between seven small and large companies from the Netherlands and Flanders, as well as OVAM (Flemish Public Waste Authority) and Deltares. This EU Interreg-project aims to improve the quality of soil, groundwater and surface waters at former industrial areas in Europe with persistent contaminants in a green and affordable way to encourage the redevelopment of these sites.

TAUW specifically contributes with our concept ‘the Natural Catch’, consisting of a reactive mat construction implemented on the riverbed of the Lieve in Ghent. Another contribution we deliver is the calculation of the carbon footprint of the three nature-based techniques that have been applied in this project (reactive mat, phytoremediation, in situ biostimulation). Our Dutch and Flemish partners contribute by using innovative investigation and remediation techniques, know-how and passion for the higher cause.
